Yesterday French voters elected Emmanuel Macron, a 39-year-old former Socialist economy minister, as their next president. Mr Macron won 66% of the vote in the run-off against the hard-right Marine Le Pen. It is proof that there is a pro-European, centrist response to nationalism. Mr Macron must find a way to speak to those who rejected him, or it will be harder next time to keep populism at bay, writes our France correspondent
